Caption: BACKING FOR ABBAS: British Prime Minister Tony Blair (l) said at a London conference March 1 that the world would back the efforts of President Mahmoud Abbas (r) to suppress militants in Palestine and help build a lawful government. Some $680 million in funds have been pledged by the U.S., the European Union and other nations in support. Speaking only days after a suicide bomber killed five persons in Tel Aviv during a truce period, Abbas said that though the Palestinians would adhere to the "road map" for peace, security would be a problem until Israel withdraws from occupied lands.
