Church attacks in Iraq
Christian Century, Feb 21, 2006
Church attacks in IRAQ: An apparently coordinated series of bomb attacks hit churches and religious sites in Iraq on January 29, killing three and injuring more. A car burns (above) outside a Catholic church in Baghdad where attacks targeted churches and the Vatican embassy. In the northern city of Kirkuk, a car bomb killed one and wounded five at an Orthodox church.
Minutes later, another bomb at a Chaldean Catholic church killed two and injured several. Some police officials blame insurgents who want to increase sectarian strife--in this case, threatening the Christian minority.
