Christian Century,  August 11, 1999  by Michael S. Glaser

for Mr. LeCorneau The Ryelands, Cumbria

The melancholy of the passing of days,
the things we let slip unseen,
the moments lost, like forgotten dreams,
clouds that drift by, the sunsets, the tides.

   How suddenly things pass,
   every moment like any moment
   we cannot take back,
images we replay over and over
to no avail, imagining, if we even dare,
why Adam, too, said yes ...

And the loneliness of that inheritance, still
   of learning, again and again,
how our eyes both open and close,
   always have, and always will.
