Clergy dreams and drives …

Christian Century,  Oct 16, 2007  by Ron Sumter

KENNETH CARTER'S "Off the treadmill" (July 24) was a welcome read. Carter does need to expand his scope, however. Yes, laypeople seek to live the good life with their McMansions, like hamsters on treadmills progressing toward the goal of our jaded culture. But I would have liked to see the critique stretched to cover the parsonage as well. We clergy cherish our titles, our dreams of "serving" Christ in "tall steeple" churches, and our drive to enjoy more of the toys that litter the mega-church circuses.

It seems to me that we divines also have a taste for the "lifestyles of the rich and famous."
