Charitable giving

American philanthropic giving increased by 6 percent in 2005 compared to the previous year. While some of this increase is attributed to responses to natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina, only 3 percent of the total estimated giving of $260.3 billion was for disaster relief. Recipients of these contributions (in percentages) were:
