Roussel (1916, p. 95) states that "comme les communautes juives qui s'etablirent en Grece et dans l'Occident, celle de Delos devait etre composee surtout de petites gens, adonnes a d'infimes negoces," and in n. 3 that "toutefois les privileges qu'obtiennent les Juifs de Delos indiquent que la colonie comptait des personnages influents." Durrbach (1922, p. 265) wrote that "on doit croire cependant qu'elle (la colonie juive) etait surtout composee de gens modestes a qui suffisaient de petits benefices; et c'est pourquoi peut-etre elle a garde la place que d'autres ne pouvaient plus tenir."
