Renewable Energy Today, Jan 30, 2007
The UN, European Council of Renewable Energy, World Bank and other international institutions have awarded the Energy Globe to the Renewable Energy Laboratory at the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba, in recognition of efforts to find solar alternatives for energy generation.
The annual international prize honors environmentally-friendly energy projects.
The university project consists of a laboratory for evaluating solar heaters, photovoltaic technology, driers, stoves and water purifiers.
