Gamesa to Open New Manufacturing Centers in Pennsylvania

Renewable Energy Today,  March 10, 2006

Pennsylvania governor Edward Rendell recently announced that Spanish wind energy company Gamesa Corporation is expanding operations in the state by investing $34 million to open three new manufacturing centers on more than 20 acres of U.S. Steel's former Fairless Hills industrial site.

Rendell noted that the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Bucks County Economic Development Corporation have partnered in offering Gamesa a financial package totaling approximately $10 million in grants, loans and tax credits for the three facilities.

Gamesa's $12-million blade manufacturing plant at Fairless Hills will have an annual production capacity of 300 megawatts (MW) and produce parts for the Gamesa G8X-2.0 MW wind turbines, while a new $7-million facility, also with an annual production capacity of 300 MW, will manufacture towers for the G8X-2.0 MW platform. Lastly, a new $15-million plant will assemble nacelles for the Gamesa G80-2.0 MW, Gamesa G83-2.0 MW, Gamesa G87-2.0 MW and Gamesa G90-2.0 MW turbine models and will have an annual production capacity of 1,000 MW. All three facilities are scheduled to commence operations this year.
