Applied Materials to Participate in SVP Green Power Program

Renewable Energy Today,  March 10, 2006

Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the city of Santa Clara, CA's municipal electric utility, recently announced that Applied Materials, a Santa Clara-based leader in nanomanufacturing technology, has agreed to participate in SVP's Santa Clara Green Power renewable energy program.

According to SVP, Applied Materials has made a commitment to purchase 2,279 megawatt-hours of renewable power each year sourced from new wind farms and solar power projects.

"Applied Materials recognizes the need to protect the environment and to conserve natural resources," said SVP vice president of corporate asset services Norm Armour. "To that end, we include such considerations in the products and services that we deliver to our customers, and in our presence in the community."

Through the purchase, Applied Materials has become a member of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership for its Santa Clara facilities. In addition, a portion of Applied Materials' Santa Clara Green Power rate will help support new solar installations in the city.
