Kazakhstan to Develop Wind Energy Potential

The government of Kazakhstan recently announced it will construct a five-megawatt wind power station at Dzungarian Gates in Almaty Oblast by 2010.

According to the government, the Global Environmental Facility has provided $2.5 million for the project, while Kazakhstan has allocated $4 million.

The government noted that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has prepared a project that is intended to render technical aid to support development of the country's wind power industry.
