* Turbulent markets in Latin America continue to take a toll in South Florida. The latest casualty is German investment bank Dresdner Bank Lateinamerika, which announced it will close its Miami office in February and lay off most of its 144 local employees. Earlier last month, the Weather Channel Latin America announced it would shut down, closing Miami and Atlanta offices that had some 80 employees between them.

Both firms cited political uncertainty and economic malaise in the region. Dresdner will continue to operate offices in Latin cities including Brazil, Mexico and Argentina; The Weather Channel Latin America will cease all operations in the region, where it has operated for six years.
