Beatrice Rangel: "Miami is going to turn into the capital city of the Americas through its cultural infrastructure more than anything else. I mean, Alexandria [Egypt] was Alexandria because of its library, not because of its port."

South Florida CEO,  Oct, 2004

The Player: Beatrice Rangel

Latest Play: Joined New York-based Zemi Communications as managing director and president of AMLA Consulting, Zemi's new Miami-based business consulting affiliate.

Background: The Venezuelan native held a number of government posts in her home country, including ones at the ministries of Foreign Relations and of Education. Later she joined the entertainment conglomerate Cisneros Group of Cos. When the company relocated to Miami four years ago, she moved with the company as a vice president and senior advisor to its chairman. Rangel will continue to advise Cisneros Group on matters regarding the Free Trade Area of the Americas and Miami's Performing Arts Center.

Ambition: To advise small to mid-size entertainment and communications-related companies that want to do business in the US and Latin American markets. Eager to return to operational responsibilities after spending much of her recent career as an analyst, she says, "My analyses have been right on target, but this is truly my first operational responsibility in the private sector."
