As Juniper sees it, 75 customer deployments for its T-Series routers can't be wrong. Now, Juniper is giving those same customers a way to scale to terabits with its TX Matrix platform. Serving as the central routing and switching element of a multi-chassis design, the TX Matrix brings together multiple T640 platforms to form a core solution that can deliver 3 billion packets-per-second throughput. Like its predecessor, the TX Matrix also utilizes Juniper's JUNOS routing system software to deliver a full set of features and services.

The TX Matrix combines a fully redundant architecture and no single point of failure with various high-availability features including graceful routing engine switchover, in-service software upgrades and bi-directional detection. Designed to deliver multi-terabit scale in a small footprint, the TX Matrix protects existing T640 investments that allow a service provider to interconnect increasing numbers of chassis as a single routing entity. In addition, the T640 router can be connected to the TX Matrix platform at distances of up to 100 meters, allowing for both local and distributed deployments. The TX Matrix allows customers to interconnect up to four T640 routing nodes today, for 2.5 Tbps of routing capacity and is architected to scale well beyond by leveraging a highly extensible Clos switch fabric design. As a 40-Gbps-capable platform, the T640 Routing node can deliver 640 Gbps of capacity and up to 770 million packets per second of throughput.
