Beauty in its most basic essence is a reflection of our own self-confidence and self-awareness, declares holistic beauty expert Kat James, author of The Truth About Beauty: Unlocking the Secrets to Profound Radiance.
"We spend too much time imposing society's ideals of beauty on our bodies and our faces, when nature always creates something much more stunning," says James, who believes in using makeup to enhance your features, not hide or change them.
Her advice: Use a creamy taupe-colored eye pencil or eye shadow instead of a heavy black eyeliner to accentuate the shape of your eyes; swipe on lip color in a shade you like, not one dictated by the latest trends; and play with shimmer powders, mixing them into your regular foundation or dusting them on your cheeks and eyes to enhance tour natural radiance. Most important of all, have fun with your beauty routine.
