The healthiest cities - Letters to the Editor - Letter to the Editor

Natural Health,  July, 2003

I greatly enjoyed your April 2003 article on the healthiest cities in the United States ("4th Annual America's Healthiest Cities"). Although Nashville, Tenn., was only in 24th place, I am extremely proud of the new Nashville School of Homeopathy, which opened in February. I am a member of the first class of a three-year program taught by both American and English homeopaths. Congratulations, Nashville, for maintaining the educational tradition that won you the sobriquet "Athens of the South."

Linda Langham

Manchester, Tenn.

I was shocked to see that Portland, Ore., ranked sixth in your list of America's healthiest cities. The city looks pretty, but actually it is a very toxic place to live. The two rivers that flow through it carry enough waste from a nuclear facility upriver to deform the salmon, and nothing has been done to reduce the level of PCBs. Until we make a healthy environment a high priority, no American city will be truly healthy.
