Food for thought

Natural Health,  Feb, 2005  by Claire Whitcomb,  Julie Caracci

I like your magazine, but I was disappointed to see you recommend tuna ["Go Fish," November] for omega-3s. Not only is tuna full of mercury, it's also an unsustainable food. I wish you'd take into account the Audubon Society's list of what's overfished (at seafood.audubon.org).

Editor's note: When it comes to the global impact of your tuna burger, fishing methods and tuna variety make a difference. According to the Audubon Society, pole- or troll-caught ahi, yellowfin, bigeye, and albacore are environmentally sound choices--better than the same varieties caught on a long line, and much better than bluefin tuna, which should be avoided altogether.

Thank you for "Keep the Feast, Skip the Beast" [November] about an alternative to eating turkey for Thanksgiving. It's so refreshing to find there are people out there with open minds and less cruel lifestyles.
