Praise for a slimming herb - ephedra - Letter to the Editor

As an acupuncturist and herbalist, I was thrilled to see your comments concerning ephedra (Ephedra sinica, also known as ma huang) in the December 2002 issue ("Weight-Loss Supplements that Work"). Ma huang is an ancient Chinese herb that has been successfully used in Oriental medicine herbal formulas for centuries. When judiciously combined with other herbs in proper proportions and when taken with the advice of a trained health care practitioner, this herb poses no risk.
