Women Are Not Small Men. - book review
Natural Health, March, 2002
Women Are Not Small Men BY NIECA GOLDBERG, M.D. BALLANTINE BOOKS; $24
Although heart disease is the number-one one killer of American women, most women are unaware of this fact or think they're low-risk cases. Goldberg, a cardiologist and spokesperson for the American Heart Association, delivers a dose of reality. She points out that back pain, nausea, breathlessness, and chronic fatigue can all indicate heart trouble in women. Her encyclopedic book also includes the latest information on risk factors, smoking cessation programs, diet, and medications. A main-stream cardiologist, she's tolerant of visualization, aromatherapy, and music therapy, but she's fairly negative on herbal remedies and other supplements, because she feels that they lack proof and have potentially dangerous side effects, especially in combination with conventional medicine. No topic is covered in depth, but if you want just one book to use as a resource for female heart health, this is surely the most comprehensive.
