Catch a romance

Natural Health,  Nov, 2004

Here's an incentive to make the Bridget Jones sequel your date movie of choice this month: Romantic films can raise levels of a hormone that may help both men and women to open up and explore their lovey-dovey side, according to a new study from the University of Michigan. After watching a 30-minute clip from the Bridges of Madison County, study subjects had a 10 percent increase in progesterone, a hormone shown to boost the need to bond with others.

On the other hand, you might want to skip action movies: A second group watched a 30-minute clip from the godfather part II, which caused levels of aggression-raising testosterone to jump by up to 30 percent in men with already high levels of the hormone.
