The Face of Old Testament Studies. A Survey of Contemporary Approaches - Briefly Noted - Book Review
Currents in Theology and Mission, Dec, 2002 by Ralph W. Klein
The Face of Old Testament Studies. A Survey of Contemporary Approaches. Edited by David W. Baker and Bill T. Arnold (Baker, $34.99). The sixteen articles in this book trace the ups and downs of Old Testament scholarship during the last three decades of the twentieth century. The articles are broadly based and include also, but by no means exclusively, the insights of conservative scholarship.
There are articles on inscriptions relating to the OT, archaeology, history of various periods, and study of particular books (Pentateuch, history books, prophets, wisdom, Psalms, apocalyptic), and various methodologies (textual criticism, literary approaches, historiography). First rate stuff.
