Does your yoga teacher know the difference between a cobra and a downward dog? Two new organizations are attempting to give consumers some insight into yoga instructor qualifications. YogaFit offers eight-hour workshops to review technique basics; the organization also requires instructors to perform eight hours of community services to ensure they can deliver safe and effective classess to all levels of students. YogaFit coursework is approved by the American Council on Exercise, and currently, more than 7,000 instructors have gone through the training. For more information, visit www.yogafit.com.

The Yoga Alliance registers yoga teachers who meet minimum teaching standards established by the organization's founding members. Yoga Alliance also registers yoga schools that have teacher-training programs to address its standards. More than 3,000 registered instructors and schools have met the guidelines thus far. For a list, visit www.yogaalliance.org.
