Water bottles busted
Muscle & Fitness/Hers, May-June, 2003 by Kristina Haar
Trying to save money for a personal trainer by reusing the plastic bottle your water or diet soda comes in? You may be getting more than you bargained for. The Canadian Journal of Public Health reports that dangerous bacteria and potentially toxic plastic compounds were found in reused plastic water bottles intended for a single use only.
How bad was it? If the same bacteria were found in a city's water supply, it would be shut down. Washing the bottles isn't the answer, either: It can cause toxic chemical compounds, some of which are carcinogenic, to migrate out of the bottles and into the liquid you put inside them.
