Trump this

Flex,  Nov, 2006  by Julian Schmidt

In September's edition of Hard Times, we reported on the upcoming nuptials of bodybuilding's latest "it" couple--GUNTER SCHLIERKAMP and KIM LYONS. Since then, they've filled us in on a few more details regarding their wedding plans.

In fact, Lyons can hardly contain her joy when speaking about their March 18, 2007, marriage. "We're really busy putting together wedding plans," she exudes. "It's going to be quite an event. We've found a beautiful little glass chapel on the edge of the Palos Verdes peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and it's just gorgeous. Then, we're going to cruise down the coast a couple of miles for the reception at the DONALD TRUMP golf course [Trump National Golf Club]."

It's refreshing to listen to the charming young lady giddily describe her couturiere, even though she's speaking a foreign language to us FLEXers: "For those who are into fashion, I'll be wearing a dress by VERA WANG. She's the top designer for all the stars. That should be exciting for all the girls out there. Gunter will wear his tuxedo-style posing trunks." (That second part is a joke, we promise.)

Their honeymoon will have to be postponed until Lyons has a break in her filming schedule as a trainer on the popular TV weight-loss show, The Biggest Loser, but they'll make up for it later in Bora Bora. "It gets better all the time. We're never boring," she laughs. As if we need to be reminded.

Schlierkamp, meanwhile, is basking in his own glow of Hollywood stardom in the big-screen comedy Beerfest. On August 21, the couple attended the movie's premiere, and Lyons seems more excited than Schlierkamp about her future hubby's success. "He walked his first red carpet," she proudly exclaims, "the first of many, I'm sure." Lyons is prophetic: so pleased were the filmmakers with Schlierkamp's performance, they promptly offered him a part in another movie.

Beerfest, another risible twist on college hijinks, follows a beer-competition odyssey by libertine students who find themselves as far off-campus as Germany, and beyond the horizons of craziness. Its release on August 25 was a delightfully cynical tour de force: it was just in time to give its back-to-school audience some creative hints on how to start the new semester. "WILLIE NELSON is also in it at the end," Lyons adds. "It's really funny."
