Dense & Intense

Flex,  July, 2008  by George De Pirro

At the heart of Ronnie Coleman's new DVD, Invinciple, are a couple of two-day training sessions completed 12 and three weeks out from the 2007 Olympia. Coleman was experimenting with a "hyperstyle" formula (as described by adviser Chad Nicholls in a short segment taped in Coleman's hotel room hours before the Olympia prejudging) with higher reps and more sets designed to add density to his muscles. An interesting look at how a champion bodybuilder attempts to reclaim a title, the film is impressive when Ronnie comes alive in his home gym (he transferred his training base there after years at the now-famous MetroFlex). His intensity shines through, and there are enough shouts of "light weight" and "yeah, buddy" to keep fans happy. Even on an elliptical machine, Coleman can be interesting to watch.

Exhaustively documented and produced by Mitsuru Okabe, Invincible, which clocks in at seven hours of footage, is available at bigroncoleman.com and mocvideo.com.
