Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You to Know About

by Kevin Trudeau

Alliance Publishing Group, Inc., P.O. Box 207, Elk Grove Village, Illinois 60009 USA

ISBN: 097559950X, Hardcover, c.2004, $29.95, 572 pp.

Kevin Trudeau's, Natural Cures "They" Don't Want You to Know About has fascinated American readers, appearing on best seller lists for many months. Is that because the author recommends methods to restore health naturally by using alternative medical providers who are not paid by insurance plans? Or is it because the author identifies government agencies that restrict information about alternative health care? Do our government agencies have the citizens' best interests in mind or are they more concerned with what's best for international pharmaceutical companies? Conspiracy theories galore are provided with plenty of verified examples.

Did you know that the natural herb ephedra was banned by the FDA, but a court in Utah said the ban was illegal? Ephedra has a track record of over 3,000 years of usage. Pseudo-ephedrine, a man-made, patented chemical that acts similarly to ephedra, has never had any restrictions placed on it until now, when--with the ban on ephedra in place-pseudo-ephedrine can be used to manufacture "illegal" drugs. The natural ephedra cannot be used to manufacture illegal drugs and is perfectly safe when taken as directed. The baseball player who died, supposedly from taking ephedra (along with sports supplements), was also drinking diet sodas--which are still totally legal to drink.

I wish that this book had been out there for me years ago when I had great health insurance coverage at my government job. My weight was constantly rising, my cholesterol levels were awful, and I had developed arthritis. My medical doctor never suggested dietary guidelines that didn't contain massive amounts of dairy products. By eliminating all homogenized milk from my diet, my health started to return and my breathing improved, but this was still not enough to get me back in shape. I stopped all pharmaceutical drugs after I met a traditional naturopathic doctor. This doctor worked with me energetically, using homeopathy and natural herbal remedies. My naturopath proved to me that my diet of processed foods was destroying my health. This book covers the reasons why people become ill and the ways their health may be restored.

Kevin Trudeau, of course, is selling something, a subscription to his newsletter and more copies of his book, but his main purpose here is to educate the public on the hazards of chemicals in our daily life. I feel he does that. He helps the reader determine which practitioners can be trusted and which should be avoided. He lists helpful web sites, along with the names of other alternative health care providers. He also includes other valuable information, such as the fact that the FDA allows over 15,000 chemicals to be labeled as "spices" for ingredients in our food supply. Why, if a food product lists "spice" on the label, couldn't the manufacturer list the individual spices: i.e., turmeric, basil, cinnamon, sage, mustard seed, etc? And what about the potentially harmful chemical interactions that could occur when eating foods containing other unlisted chemicals or even spices? I feel the book's title ought to have been titled, The Poisoning of America by Chemicals and Quick Profits.

The author presents a prime example of the dangers that face consumers: the poisoning of our municipal water supplies with fluoride and chlorine. Fluoride pumped into our water supplies is a by-product of aluminum production and illegal to dump, so it is sold to municipalities and slowly dispersed through the public water supply. Once, I let too much water run into a koi pond I was tending, and the oldest fish died because I did not add enough conditioner to the water (this conditioner removes the chlorine). The livers of the older fish were not able to handle the toxins provided by the city water supply because their livers (according to our fish man) had become too intoxicated from living in this municipal water during their life span. Chlorine and man-made fluoride are not naturally found in fresh lakes or streams. The author explains that one of the major causes of the obesity problem in America is caused by these two chemicals and states that one should only drink filtered water. Fluoride adversely affects virtually every organ in our bodies, primarily our thyroid glands.

He also refers to Americans' daily use of a "gas chamber." The steam from your unfiltered shower water contains poisonous gas chemicals. Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies, and it has been reported that we absorb more toxins by taking one shower than by drinking five glasses of tap water. A shower filter is definitely worth buying!

The book covers six points to a balanced lifestyle: what goes in, excrement/sweat, exercise, rest, thoughts, and spoken words. I hope you go out and get a copy of this book as it helps you understand why America is not as healthy as it was 50 years ago. Questions raised and addressed within this book include the following: Could you eliminate your daily aspirin, which has been linked to strokes and loss of eyesight? (Aspirin has been found to cause over 2,000 deaths annually.) What is your daily requirement for aspirin, Prozac, asthma inhalers, etc.? Did you realize that cholesterol-lowering drugs are the number one money-maker today for doctors and pharmaceutical companies? Did you know that you can take several different vitamins to reduce your cholesterol levels and so avoid the awful side effects of statins? Maybe reading this book will get you to write your elected representatives (many of whom own pharmaceutical stocks) about these health issues. I hope this book, with its many leads, will help you find your new direction in health.
