Older Students Eat Poorly

Healthy & Natural Journal,  Oct, 2000

As students move from childhood to adolescence, their consumption of breakfast foods, fruits, vegetables and milk decreases while soft drinks rise sharply. In a Minnesota study, third-graders reported eating breakfast while eighth-graders eating breakfast dropped by 15 percent. Vegetable consumption between the two grades dipped by half.

Surprisingly, the consumption of high-fat, salty snacks actually declined in older students, according to researchers.
