Harvie S Texas Rumba
Latin Beat Magazine, May, 2004 by Rudy Mangual
HARVIE S Texas Rumba (Zoho Music)
Bassist/bandleader Harvie S delivers a refreshing and uniquely explosive repertoire of mostly original Latin jazz scores. His approach to the genre is commendable, as he weaves his way in and around forbidden areas that many others choose to ignore of avoid. Eleven tracks keep the listener interested in experiencing the music, while maybe even getting up and boogying a little. Having discovered the hypnotic magic of the bass tumbao in Latin music, Harvie performs like a native who's been classically trained and bred. In tracks such as Texas Rumba, Fácil and Good News, it is easy to identify the Latin flavor of the compositions while this is not the case in the remaining tracks. The amazing supportive cast of players includes Daniel Kelly (piano), Adam Weber (drums), Gregory Rivkin (trumpet), Scott Robert Avidon (saxophones) and Renato Thoms (percussion). The vibrant beauty and deep mystery of the four-string acoustic bass comes to life in the hands of Harvie S.
