AORN Journal,  July, 2005

An article on substance abuse in perioperative settings states that health care professionals who abuse medications generally use more than four substances. * A Home Study article discusses laparoscopic electrosurgical complications and their prevention. * The Journal reports that the FDA has approved the first test to determine whether individuals have potentially dangerous allergies to latex.

* A study finds that despite the efforts of central service personnel who followed standardized protocols for surgical instrument processing, three of 32 processed instruments that were examined contained residual organic debris that was evident on visual inspection, and 27 contained residual organic debris that was detected by a microscope.
