AORN Journal,  Jan, 2000

Sunday, April 2, to Thursday, April 6, 2000

HEADQUARTERS STAFF MEMBERS

Approximately 60 members of the Headquarters staff work on site during Congress to see that you have the best possible educational and networking experience. The on-site Headquarters/Board Office will be located in Room 277 at the Ernest N. Modal Convention Center. Go to this office to make appointments with members of the Board of Directors, Headquarters staff members, and the parliamentarian. The lost-and-found area also will be in this room.

Editors and reporters for Congress News will be in Room 275. If you would like an event covered in Congress News, please see one of the editors.

Many of the Headquarters staff members will be working in the registration area during normal registration hours. Customer service representatives, the chapter relations coordinator, Opportunity staff members, information technology staff members, and Foundation staff members will be there to help you with your information needs.

This year, AORN's Perioperative Bookstore will be located in Rooms 265-268, and the Satellite Bookstore will be located outside Hall F. Stop by and look at the fine array of books, videotapes, and AORN Logoline products.

HEADQUARTERS CUSTOMER SERVICE

The customer service department at AORN Headquarters in Denver will be fully staffed during Congress to help members. Customer service staff members will be available by telephone from 7 AM to 4:30 PM mountain time Monday through Friday and may be reached by calling (800) 755-2676 x 1.

CONGRESS SHUTTLE BUS INFORMATION

Attendees who wear Congress badges may ride the AORN shuttle buses the entire week, beginning at 10 AM, Saturday, April 1, through 8 PM, Thursday, April 6. Shuttle service runs between official AORN hotels and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Bus route information and schedules will be available at the registration counters in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and all official AORN hotels. Bus service is not provided for pre-Congress or meetings arranged by state councils, chapters, and other groups.

CONGRESS NEWS

During Congress week, Congress News will be published daily beginning Sunday, April 2, through Thursday, April 6. Daily editions will be 12 pages this year, allowing for more coverage of the many Congress events, including House of Delegates sessions, Forums, education sessions, and awards presentations. A special edition will be published Thursday afternoon to announce the results of the election. In addition, selected articles will be posted daily on the Congress News page on AORN's web site.

Congress attendees can pick up copies of Congress News in the registration area of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. All items submitted for publication must be in the Congress News office, Room 275 in the convention center, by noon the day before they are to be published. Publication is at the discretion of the editorial director, and Congress News will not include group meeting announcements or exhibitor prize announcements.

COMPUTER STATIONS

AORN will provide computer stations at Congress once again. Each station will contain the Congress survey, hotel locator, product locator, and Electronic Job Bulletin Board (EJBB).

Congress surveys include questions related to Congress and provide valuable feedback to AORN staff members and leaders. The hotel locator service helps attendees locate colleagues, delegates, and friends. This service includes hotel addresses and phone numbers, which makes it easier to stay in touch. Product locators allow attendees to search specific categories of products to find the names and booth numbers of companies that market these products.

The EJBB lists open nursing positions nationwide. Exhibiting companies may list their open sales and marketing positions as well.

MAIL HOME CENTER

The Mail Home Center will be located in Rooms 278-282 in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The Mail Home Center is located next to AORN's Perioperative Bookstore. Attendees may purchase a box for $15 at the beginning of the week and store books and giveaways at the Mail Home Center throughout the week. At the end of Congress, boxes will be sealed and shipped to your designated address. Appropriate shipping fees will be collected.

The Box Art Contest will take place again this year. Four prizes will be awarded:

* first place is one week's registration for the 200l Congress in Dallas,

* second place is a $100 gift certificate from AORN's Perioperative Bookstore,

* third place is a $100 savings bond, and

* fourth place is free shipping for your boxed items.

CONGRESS BADGE INFORMATION

All Congress badges will be white and will be printed with this year's Congress logo. For easy identification, exhibitor badges will have purple-colored bands across the bottom. Nurses' and general registrants' badges will have the words member, delegate, or alternate centered across the bottom.

MULTIMEDIA PRODUCT SALES

Most education sessions at Congress will be audiotaped, and selected sessions will be videotaped. Audiotape and videotape orders will be taken at the booth located in the registration lobby. We suggest you order early in the week so your requested items are ready for you before you leave New Orleans. Other items for sale will be CD-ROMs from 1997, 1998, and 1999, and orders will be taken for the 2000 CD-ROM. The booth closes at 8 PM on Thursday, April 6. For more information about purchasing these items, contact Sound Images, Inc, 7388 S Revere Parkway, Suite 806, Englewood, CO 80112, (303) 649-1811, or send them a fax at (303) 790-4230.
