Diabetes prevention

Better Nutrition,  Sept, 2004

An epidemiological study of 2,300 people found that a high intake of vitamin E lowers the risk of diabetes by 31 percent, and beta-cryptoxanthin reduces the risk by 42 percent. However, carotenoids had little benefit against type 2 diabetes.

The findings were published in the May 2004 edition of Diabetes Care.

In the same month, research appearing in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that vitamin E and the carotenoid lycopene significantly lower odds of getting rectal cancer.
