Shopping the store with the greatest of ease

My first health food store was called Great Earth. In my hometown of Palm Springs, California, my mom and I would go there to get vitamins, smoothie mixes, bread (it was the only health food store in town and the best place to get the whole grain variety) and peanut butter (when she didn't grind it herself). My mom maneuvered around the store with ease, knowing exactly what she needed and wanted. Little did I know that this little store with its exposed wood beams, rows of narrow shelves and foodstuffs galore would affect my shopping (and eating) habits into adulthood.

Thirty years later, health food stores are far more abundant and so are the natural food and dietary supplement brands that fill them. When you walk into a health food store, there are more choices than ever. How on earth to pick? That's what the new BN is all about.

Last issue, I introduced you briefly to BN as a shopping magazine for natural living. We're here to do the homework for you. The products you see in each issue (they're the ones in the circles) are those made with quality ingredients as similar as possible to substances proven to have health benefits in the lab.
