Sweet for stevia

Better Nutrition,  Feb, 2007

Ours is a nation obsessed with weight, but we still save room for dessert. In the Ultimate Dessert Survey, 84 percent of the 1,000 adults polled indulge. If you're among those who feel guilty for satisfying your sweet tooth, read on.

Consider replacing sugar with stevia, a natural sweetener with no fats, calories or carbs, found at health food stores. Stevia is up to 400 times sweeter than sugar but does not affect blood glucose.

Adjust stevia in recipes based on package directions. In general, 1 tsp. equals 1 cup of sugar. When combining with eggs and butter, ingredients will not cream, but they will come together when dry ingredients are added.
