Douse hot flashes with isoflavones

Better Nutrition,  Feb, 2007

A new review of previously published studies found that genistein, one of several soy isoflavones, reduced hot flashes. Published in the journal Menopause, the report revealed the significance of genistein in 11 prior studies. In five of the studies, participants who were given more than 15mg of genistein reported a significant decrease in hot flashes.

Participants in the other six studies, who were given less than 15mg of genistein, did not report a significant drop. Isoflavone supplements containing genistein are widely available. Traditional soy foods, such as tofu, soy milk, tempeh and miso, also contain genistein; soy sauce oil do not, however.
