Same food, more nutrition

Better Nutrition,  Oct, 2004

Both broccoli and tomatoes contain chemicals believed to fight cancer. But a new study on rats shows that eating broccoli and tomatoes in combination could maximize the amount of cancer protection both foods afford. The finding underscores the complex interactions in the body among various nutrients.

Last year, it was discovered that eating broccoli together with selenium-rich chicken makes the foods' anticancer components up to 13 times more powerful. The new study will be published in the December 2004 issue of The Journal of Nutrition.
