Become a Bag Lady - Bowling - Brief Article

Bowling Digest,  August, 2000  by Lydia Rypcinski

THIS SEASON THE WORLD'S fashioinistas--who would never before have associated themselves with something as common as bowling--have embraced the sport, or at least its trappings.

Credit the attitude turnaround to the House of Prada, which introduced a "bowling bag" purse in perforated leather with its Spring 2000 collection. Fashion editors at Marie Claire and Mirabella magazines proclaimed the bag the accessory for summer, and now the original and its clones are turning up everywhere from Nordstrom's to the neighborhood discounter.

The details of the handbag--double handles with attaching leather tabs, a zipper that goes around the bag's top and sides, the pyramid-style construction--are borrowed from the classic 1950s single-ball pouch. It's the latest manifestation of bowling-inspired fashion, which has previously included two-tone "bowling" shoes and retro bowling shirts.

Buy one for yourself, and pick up another for a spare.
