Robert J. Gillette Named President And CEO Honeywell Aerospace, Adriane M. Brown Named President And CEO Honeywell Transportation Systems; Robert D. Johnson to Become Non-Executive Chairman Aerospace and to Retire in 2006
Business Wire, Jan 7, 2005
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that Robert J. Gillette has been named President and CEO of its $9.8 billion Aerospace business and Adriane M. Brown has been named President and CEO of its $4.3 billion Transportation Systems business, effective immediately. Both positions report to Chairman and CEO Dave Cote.
Gillette succeeds Robert D. Johnson, who plans to retire in January 2006. Johnson will remain with the company for one year as a non-executive Chairman of Aerospace to facilitate an orderly transition. Brown, most recently Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Aerospace Engine Systems & Accessories, succeeds Gillette, who had held the position of President and CEO of Honeywell's Transportation Systems business since 2001.
"Today we are announcing two important moves that will help to shape our future," said Honeywell Chairman and CEO Dave Cote. "Rob and Adriane are both exceptional leaders with track records of success, global experience, and strong business instincts to drive growth."
"Over the past several years, Rob has played a critical role in building our Transportation Systems business by adding new customers, incorporating higher standards in both quality and service, and rolling out new technology platforms. As a result, our Transportation Systems business has produced double-digit growth in its turbocharger unit, higher overall operating income and increased cash flow since 2001. Rob has proven to be both a great operator and an effective marketer, which has translated into high satisfaction among customers and growth for our business."
"In 2005, we are looking for a continued resurgence in Commercial aerospace and growth in the Defense segment. Rob is highly qualified to help us capitalize on these opportunities. In addition to understanding the core processes, systems and disciplines that are key to growth at Honeywell, Rob will also benefit from the similarities of some of the technology platforms and intellectual properties that are common between Aerospace and Transportation Systems."
"I would also like to thank Bob Johnson for his tremendous contribution to the company over the past 10 years and for his commitment to assist Rob in assimilating his new position and working with customers through this transition. He is a charismatic leader who has forged strong relationships with customers and inspired great loyalty with employees."
Gillette has been with Honeywell since 1996 and named President and CEO of Honeywell Transportation Systems in July 2001. Under Gillette's leadership, Transportation Systems has achieved compounded annual sales and income growth rates of 8% and 22%, respectively. In his new position, Gillette will be based in Phoenix, AZ.
Johnson has been with Honeywell since 1994 and has led a number of the company's Aerospace business units, culminating in 1999, when he was named President and CEO for all of Aerospace. He successfully guided the Aerospace business through the AlliedSignal-Honeywell merger, kept business fundamentals strong during the downturn following September 11, and positioned the company for growth as the Commercial segment has recovered. Last year, the Aerospace business enjoyed major new business wins in each of its market sectors, including more than $2.6 billion in products and systems for Boeing's new 7E7 Dreamliner and additional certifications for the Primus Epic(R) integrated avionics suite. In 2005, Johnson will serve as Chairman of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), the premier aerospace industry trade association.
Cote continued, "We are very pleased that Adriane Brown will now lead our Transportation Systems business. Adriane has excelled as a business leader during her five years at Honeywell, first as Vice President and General Manager in our Aircraft Landing Systems unit and most recently as Vice President and General Manager in Engine Systems & Accessories. Adriane has a terrific track record of delivering growth, improving profitability and driving customer focus in a challenging global operating environment."
"Adriane knows our core processes and how to use Six Sigma and Lean to drive results for customers, employees and shareowners. We are confident that she will make a smooth transition and will build on the momentum that has made Transportation Systems a recognized technology leader and our highest growth business."
Prior to joining Honeywell, Brown spent 19 years at Corning, Inc. in a series of positions with increasing responsibility, building a skill set in operations, sales and marketing, customer service, new business development and general management. During her last five years at Corning, she managed their Automotive Products business, eventually with global responsibility as Vice President and General Manager of the Environmental Products Division. Brown earned her Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health from Old Dominion University and Master's degree in Management, as a Sloan Fellow, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In her new position, Brown will be based in Torrance, CA.
