"We were astounded when The White House called. We can think of no better way to communicate our mission than speaking at the Youth Appreciation Concert. With Turkeys 4 America chapters already thriving in Boston, Ohio and Chicago, we hope to garner more support for our mission of feeding the hungry," said Dan Nally. The Youth Appreciation Concert "America's Future Rocks Today" will be held at The Armory from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2005. The youth entertainment concert, being sponsored by Jen and Barbara Bush, will focus on community and public service. It will include musical acts, video clips, and guest speakers. Musical acts will include Hillary Duff, Jo Jo, Ruben Studdard, 3 Doors Down, and Boxkar Rock. Other speakers will include athlete Jason Sehorn and others.
The Nally's began their turkey drive in 1996 after hearing on the news that there was a shortage of turkeys at The Greater Boston Food Bank. Each year since, Turkeys 4 America has engaged hundreds of schools, businesses and organizations to provide over 1 million servings of turkeys to food banks in Boston, Ohio, California, and Chicago. School children throughout the country participate in the annual Turkeys 4 America Challenge Cup, where students rally to make donations to help feed the hungry. And, Turkeys for America has several corporate sponsors who have helped the organization reach their goals, including Perdue Farms Incorporated, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and BJ's Wholesale Club.
The Greater Boston Food Bank distributed more than 30,000 turkeys for Thanksgiving, thanks in large part to the Nally's efforts. The Food Bank annually distributes more than 20 million pounds of food to hundreds of member food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, daycare centers for children at risk, and other charitable feeding agencies throughout eastern Massachusetts.
