PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 2003
The Science Center will host a business networking and social event designed to raise money for ACCESS, the Science Center's entrepreneurial fellowship program.
The event, called "Light up the Row," will be held on Thursday, September 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Vesper Boat Club, 10 Boathouse Row. Tickets are $25, payable at the door. To register or for more information, please visit www.sciencecenter.org/lightuptherow.
"It's going to be a great event--a great chance to meet with leaders in the entrepreneurial and venture capital community in a relaxed, social setting," said Karen Meidlinger, Ph.D., the Science Center's Director of Life Sciences and lead coordinator for the event.
"It is also for a good cause," Dr. Meidlinger said. "The funds raised will go directly to providing early-stage entrepreneurs with mentoring and business support services."
The ACCESS program, a new initiative of the Science Center, will provide fellowships to deserving entrepreneurs to allow them access to all of the Science Center entrepreneurial support programs free of charge for a year.
This includes access to the programs and facilities of the Science Center Port, the region's leading business incubator and accelerator for information technology and life science companies. The Port provides not only physical space to young companies, but also a range of business support services and training for entrepreneurs.
Also included in the fellowship is participation the Science Center Port's Launch program, which offers intensive business mentoring from industry veterans for young technology and life science companies--both those housed at the Port and non-Port companies.
According to Meidlinger, "Light up the Row" will include live music, beer and wine tasting, as well as light food. There will also be a silent auction, where prizes like a week at a Chesapeake farm, lunch at the Palm with Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham, and the opportunity to watch a live taping of an NBC10 newscast will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Several area organizations have already stepped forward to sponsor the event, including Citizens Bank, Goldenberg Rosenthal, Osiris Group, Inc., Woodcock Washburn, Trilogy Construction, and Townsend Capital.
