LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2002
Smooth Jazz, 94.7 KTWV "The Wave" and Newhall Coffee Roasting Co.
Announce Distribution of Smooth Java Blends to Southern California
Albertson's Stores; A Percentage of Sales Benefit the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Foundation
Smooth Jazz Radio Station KTWV, 94.7 "The Wave" introduced their exclusive line of fresh roasted coffee in January of 2002.
Today, the distribution of the five gourmet blends has expanded to include 285 Southern California Albertson's stores. Smooth jazz and smooth java are a match brewed in heaven -- and this heavenly taste just got a lot easier to find.
Smooth Java Blends are the result of a collaboration between 94.7 The Wave and the Newhall Coffee Roasting Co. Only the top one percent of class-one coffee beans are hand selected to create the smooth taste of harmony. They are then micro-roasted to perfection creating five distinctive blends: Custom Blend, available ground or whole bean, Hawaiian Hazelnut, Vanilla Nut and Decaffeinated Columbian Supremo are available ground, and French Roast is available in whole bean.
Commitment
Brothers Kyle and Mitch McMullen opened a pair of boutique coffee houses in Valencia, Calif. and began micro-roasting their own coffee in 1995. Growing demand led them to launch the Newhall Coffee Roasting Co. Part of the proceeds from every bag of Smooth Java Blends is donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
"The Newhall Coffee Roasting Company was established in the memory of our older brother, Corey," said Mitch McMullen, co-founder of Newhall Coffee Roasting Co. "Our success is dedicated to him. With sales of Smooth Java Blends, we hope to honor his memory by raising money to fund research to fight this terrible disease."
The McMullen brothers, who have set a long-term fundraising goal of 1 million dollars, were recently named as Los Angeles Man of the Year for their efforts on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Co-Branding Success
"Few things go together better than smooth jazz and java," said Greg Schoenbaum, director of sales marketing and promotion, 94.7 The Wave. "We share many characteristics with the Newhall Coffee Roasting Company brand -- our mission is to take music from diverse origins to offer our listeners a rich and smooth listening experience. The McMullen brothers value the same approach in the way they micro-roast top quality beans from diverse origins."
Southern California Distribution
"We're excited to offer Smooth Java Blends and Albertson's customers will now be able to enjoy a gourmet coffee of unparalleled freshness," said Stacia Levenfeld, Public Affairs Director for California, Albertsons Inc.
"Not only does this product bring our shoppers a new high-quality coffee, but they can feel good buying it because of Newhall Coffee Roasting Company's commitment to donate a percentage of sales to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Foundation. We're thrilled to partner on selling a product that will raise much needed funds and with organizations as socially conscious as Newhall Coffee Roasting Company and The Wave."
