David Pinckard Joins Merant as Vice President of Engineering

Technology Veteran Further Strengthens Executive Team of Leading

Software Configuration and Web Content Management Provider

Merant (Nasdaq:MRNT) (LSE:MRN), a leading provider of software and services that deliver flexible control of code, content and other business-critical assets, today announced the appointment of David Pinckard to the position of vice president of engineering.

Pinckard, who has more than 15 years of experience in management, technical and marketing leadership roles, will oversee engineering operations at Merant's headquarters in Hillsboro, Oregon, and the company's development center in the United Kingdom.

Pinckard will play a critical role in helping Merant continue to drive innovation in the software configuration management (SCM) market. Merant's SCM offerings currently include PVCS Professional(TM), a powerful solution that helps project teams cost-effectively automate and manage development and business projects, and PVCS Dimensions(TM), a tightly integrated change management framework that delivers comprehensive process control, versioning, baseline management, issue management, release management, build management and workflow management.

Prior to joining Merant, Pinckard was a founder and CEO of Upright Systems, a provider of technology and services for managing best-of-breed applications deployments, which was founded in 1999. Previously, he held numerous executive management positions at Tektronix, Inc., most recently as vice president and general manager of the Network Displays Division. Pinckard also served as Tektronix' vice president of worldwide engineering in the Video Networking Division as well as vice president and general manager of Tektronix' Storage and Networking Division. While leading the Storage and Networking organization, he supervised the introduction of a new line of video servers, which within two years achieved a tenfold increase in revenue and gained 80 percent market share.

Pinckard holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Oregon State University. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
