Media 100 Announces Shipment of 844/Xi with New Interoperability Release Features

MARLBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 2002
Affordable 844/Xi Available Immediately; Includes Timeline Export
to Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop Layer Import
Media 100 Inc. (NASDAQ: MDEA), a leading provider of advanced media systems, today announced first customer shipment of 844/Xi, the newest member of the Company's award-winning 844/X family of editing systems for lightning-fast compositing of unlimited layers. The affordable 844/Xi targets current users of dual-stream editing systems by giving them powerful editorial capabilities with integrated real-time compositing and myriad real-time effects possibilities, all with revolutionary 10-bit precision. 844/Xi ships with new Interoperability Release software features including 844/X timeline export to Adobe After Effects and support for Adobe Photoshop layers in the 844/X timeline.
"Since the announcement of 844/Xi in November, we have seen significant interest from users of legacy two-stream editing products for whom our integrated compositing and editing technology is now much more affordable," said John Molinari, president and chief executive officer of Media 100. "Our goal is to make 844/X accessible to anyone who works regularly with layer-intensive projects."
844/Xi can process up to four streams, two video and two full-motion alpha, in real time, in any combination. Using its Intelligent Layering Architecture (ILA)--an "intelligent" software architecture that fully leverages the underlying GenesisEngine media supercomputer--844/Xi processes unlimited numbers of streams, recursively processing four at a time in real time. There is no host-based rendering. 844/Xi also provides a simplified way to view and troubleshoot arbitrary layers called Visual Voicing. This powerful capability enables editors to view any two layers in a multi-layer composition, change them, view the changes--either individually or as a group--all in real time with no processing or rendering.
844/Xi ships with new 844/X Interoperability Release features announced in September at IBC in Amsterdam, including 844/X timeline export to Adobe After Effects and support for Adobe Photoshop layers in the 844/X timeline. Additional Interoperability Release functionality, including OMF compatibility with Avid Symphony, Avid Media Composer, Digidesign Pro Tools, Apple Final Cut Pro and Media 100 i, as well as EDL export, is planned to be available in February 2003.
