Business Wire,  April 30, 2002

Business/Technology Editors

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 2002

THE LYCOS 50(TM) For Week Ending April 27, 2002

Terra Lycos (NASDAQ: TRLY), the largest global Internet network, today announced the following information from The Lycos 50(TM), the 50 most popular user searches for the week ending April 27, 2002. For a complete list of The Lycos 50(TM) and for in-depth text of The Lycos 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com.

The Lycos 50(TM)Top 10 Search Terms for the Week Ending April 27, 2002:

1) Dragonball 6) KaZaA
2) Tattoos 7) Anna Kournikova
3) Britney Spears 8) Lisa Lopes
4) Spider-Man 9) Linda Lovelace
5) Prom Hairstyles 10) Star Wars

Notes of Interest:

Contrary to rumors, tennis superstar and celebrity beauty Anna Kournikova does not appear naked in the latest issue of Penthouse magazine, but the controversy over her non-appearance has moved her from number 36 to number 7 on this week's list. The June issue of Penthouse promised photos of Kournikova "caught up close on a nude beach," but the photos do not exist. The photos claiming to be Kournikova are actually images of an unidentified woman, clearly not Kournikova. Anna's millions of fans were outraged that Anna's image and rights were violated, expressing their opinions en masse on Anna's official Web site (http://www.kournikova.com/) powered by Lycos.

Celebrity Passings:

The sudden death of former porn star Linda Lovelace (#9) was big news early in the week but it was later upstaged by the higher profile death of Lisa Lopes (#8) from the R&B group TLC (#35). Both women, coincidentally, were killed in car crashes. Lopes wasn't the only music star of the 90s to pass away recently. Layne Staley (#23), lead singer of the Seattle grunge band Alice in Chains (#31) also died this past week of an apparent heroin overdose.

Movie Mania Continues Online:

Both Spider-Man (#4) and Star Wars (#10) entered the top 10 on The Lycos 50 as Spider-Man slowly edges up the list toward number one Dragonball. Meanwhile, the box office hit The Scorpion King cannot crack The Lycos 50 but the film has generated attention online for its heroine, actress Kelly Hu (#41).

Wedding Blues:

ABC's reality show The Bachelor didn't receive much attention online before its final episode, landing nowhere near The Lycos 50 at any point during its run. But the show's final airing, when bachelor Alex chose Amanda, received eight times as many searches as last week to shoot up to number 14 on this week's list.
