New MATLAB(R) 6 and Simulink(R) 4 Tools Deliver Standard for Technical
Computing Directly to Students
The MathWorks, Inc. today announced the availability of MATLAB(R) Student Version Release 12 for U.S. and international distribution. MATLAB Student Version Release 12 will provide students with MATLAB(R) 6 and Simulink(R) 4, major updates of The MathWorks flagship products, and the ability to couple these products with a number of application-specific add-on toolboxes and blocksets.
For the first time, students in Europe and Asia will have access to the full power of MATLAB Student Version. "In continuing our commitment to provide students with the most advanced tools available, we are happy that we can now offer MATLAB Student Version to students around the world," said Cleve Moler, Chief Scientist and co-founder of The MathWorks, Inc. "The MathWorks believes that a college education experience that includes the use of MATLAB gives students a strong foundation for success in their future careers as engineers and scientists."
The MathWorks' software tools for technical computation, visualization, modeling, and simulation are widely used in the technical curriculum at more than 2,500 colleges and universities worldwide as well as in industry. In addition, more than 400 textbooks in engineering and science feature MATLAB as a teaching tool. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology are among the thousands of institutions that have incorporated MATLAB into their educational programs for many years. Internationally, MATLAB is integrated in the science and engineering curriculum at a vast number of universities including such research leaders as Cambridge and Oxford universities in the United Kingdom, TU Muenchen in Germany, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan.
"Now that a full-featured version of MATLAB is available to students, professors are better able to assign more advanced research projects and homework assignments, giving their students more real-world experience," said Hany Farid, leader of the Image Science Group in the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth College. "My students and I use MATLAB in the classroom and in our image processing and computer vision research. The new full-featured version of MATLAB Student Version is a wonderful development that will be of tremendous benefit to the students and me."
MATLAB Student Version Release 12 is a cost-effective way for students around the world to use professional-strength software on their home computers. This continuity between home and classroom benefits both professors and students. With MATLAB Student Version, students can purchase and download add-on products from The MathWorks Web Store at www.mathworks.com/store/. These tools allow students to utilize commercial-strength products in their studies and research. This enables them to handle more complex problems in areas such as control design, digital signal processing, communication systems, and image processing.
