MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 2001

Synopsys' Predictable Quality and Support Help AMCC Meet

Productivity and Tapeout Goals

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC) recently presented Synopsys Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS) with its Supplier Award for Predictability. This first annual award was established to honor key suppliers who help create a competitive advantage for AMCC. Over twenty AMCC participants in engineering, procurement, operations and the executive staff chose this year's winners.

Synopsys was measured against all major and startup EDA suppliers. According to award judges "Synopsys won for predictably delivering on time, first time, every time, and living up to commitments and its business model." The award was also granted because Synopsys tools performed as advertised, worked within AMCC's design flows and enabled the company to increase productivity and maintain tapeout schedules.

AMCC designs and manufactures high-performance, high-bandwidth silicon products for the world's optical networks and uses a wide array of Synopsys tools in all phases of its design cycle. The company uses Synopsys' SOC flow, choosing from an EDA suite that includes DC Ultra(TM), VCS(TM), TetraMAX(R) ATPG, DFT Compiler and other tools.

"In today's competitive optical networking market, we require our suppliers to deliver quality products on time," said Tom Tullie, senior vice president, worldwide sales and operations at AMCC. "Synopsys worked closely with AMCC's design centers to coordinate sales and support on multiple projects across diverse product development teams. Synopsys consistently provided expertise and cooperation, which enabled us to get our products to volume on schedule."

"We're honored that AMCC has given us this award in a category that highlights our commitment to delivering the technology and service that our customers need, on time, every time," said Jack Warecki, senior vice president, worldwide application services. "Our goal is to help customers meet their toughest design challenges. This award reinforces the fact that we are serious about working with our customers to help them develop cutting edge technology and meet tight time-to-market deadlines."
