News from NY State Insurance Department; Levin Names Rampe Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1999--

Superintendent of Insurance Neil D. Levin today announced the appointment of Kevin Rampe as Deputy Superintendent and General Counsel of the Insurance Department. Mr. Rampe assumes his duties at the Insurance Department on September 20th.

Mr. Rampe joins the Department from Governor Pataki's Office where he served as First Assistant Counsel to the Governor. In that capacity, he was a senior legal adviser to the Governor on Insurance, Banking, Civil Justice, Workers Compensation and Labor matters. Mr. Rampe joined the Governor's office as Assistant Counsel in January 1996, he was promoted to Senior Assistant Counsel in 1998 and he was named First Assistant Counsel in 1999.

Prior to joining the Governor's Counsel's Office Mr. Rampe was a litigation associate at the law firm of Shearman & Sterling. As part of his practice, he was involved in domestic and international securities, antitrust, and contract litigation as well a various commercial arbitrations. Mr. Rampe also lived in Kuwait and, in 1994-1995, was involved in the firm's representation of the Government of Kuwait and its preparation of environmental claims against the Government of Iraq arising after the Gulf War.

Mr. Rampe received his B.A., cum laude, from Union College in Schenectady, New York and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University, Albany, N.Y. He also is a graduate of the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government
