Citrix iForum '99 Ushers in ''Age of Digital Independence''

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1999--

Citrix Previews Technologies that Build the Foundation for

Accessing Any Application Over Any Connection, on Any Device

Citrix iForum '99, a knowledge exchange on application-server computing, kicked off yesterday at the Dolphin and Swan Hotels in Orlando, Fla. The two-day conference has drawn a standing-room-only attendance of more than 2,000 enterprise users, industry leaders, influencers and resellers. Citrix Chairman, Edward Iacobucci, opened the conference with a keynote on "digital independence," a simple concept that is coming to fruition through application-server computing. Digital independence means freedom from the traditional complexities and constraints of computing, enabling users to access the applications they need from any device or server, over any connection, with greater predictability and speed.

Mark Templeton, president and chief executive officer of Citrix, previewed two new technologies: Project Charlotte, which combines the functionality of interactive applications with the thinness of Web browsers; and Project Vertigo, an object-oriented development tool that will enable rich delivery of thin applications on the Web for greater interactivity.

As evidence of application-server computing's growing industry acceptance, Iacobucci cited widespread licensing of Citrix's Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(R)), a key enabling technology. ICA is in use by 100,000 organizations, including 98 of the FORTUNE 100 companies, with more than 15 million concurrent user licenses. In addition, 100 OEMs have licensed ICA technology for incorporation in products ranging from semiconductors to handheld devices.
