To celebrate the launch of its comprehensive new online Music Store, barnesandnoble.com (http://www.bn.com) (Nasdaq: BNBN) is offering a previously unreleased live recording from multi-platinum Atlantic Records artist Jewel. The Jewel download promotion begins today at the barnesandnoble.com Music Store.

This special live version of "Deep Water" was recorded during Jewel's recent tour of Australia. Using the freely downloadable Liquid(tm) Player software from Liquid Audio, Inc., Jewel fans and other visitors to the Music Store site can preview the song, view the lyrics and CD art, and securely download the track to their personal computer. The original studio version of "Deep Water" appears on Jewel's current Atlantic album, Spirit. All of Jewel's releases, including albums, books, and sheet music, are available at the new barnesandnoble.com Music Store.

The Music Store offers comprehensive music titles across 16 categories including Classical, Jazz, Alternative, Blues, Broadway and Soundtracks, Country, Dance and DJ, Folk, Kids, New Age, Pop, R&B/Soul, Rap and Hip-Hop, Rock and World. "Listening Walls" in the main categories feature 30-second music samples in streaming audio.

barnesandnoble.com's Music Store features hundreds of thousands of albums, more than 20,000 artist biographies, more than 50,000 music reviews and album ratings, as well as editorial suggestions on artists with similar music styles. The music site is powered by the All-Music Guide database, the most authoritative source for recorded music online. The Music Store also contains the first online classical music superstore.

Jewel made her recording debut in 1995 with the release of her first Atlantic album, Pieces of You. Recently certified nine-times platinum by the RIAA, the album includes the hit singles "You Were Meant For Me," "Who Will Save Your Soul," and "Foolish Games." Spirit, Jewel's second album, was released by Atlantic in November 1998 and made its debut at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album - which features "Hands," "Down So Long," and the new single, "Jupiter (Swallow The Moon)" - has hit the four million mark in U.S. sales. Jewel's considerable achievements as a singer, songwriter, and performer represent just one area of her creative life. Her first book of poetry, A Night Without Armor, was published last year and became a mainstay on the New York Times bestseller list. This fall, she will make her acting debut in Ride With The Devil, the new film from acclaimed director Ang Lee (Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm).
