"We are very proud to be a key sponsor with Kaman in this exciting artist promotion," said Pedro Vargas chief executive officer of NewTechMusic. "Kaman is a market leader in providing world class music instruments, and our companies share the same dedication toward making online music distribution a reality for artists and consumers. Together with Kaman, we intend to make Best Band '99 one of the leading industry events for online independent artist promotion."

The contest will require independent bands to register and upload material from August through October via the contest Web site at www.bestband.com. Online voting begins Nov.1 and continues through mid-December. A tally of all the votes cast on the site will determine the top 10 bands. The judges will then listen to the finalists and construct their votes, with the Best Band On The Net announced at NAMM 2000 in Los Angeles, Calif.

NewTechMusic will produce an enhanced CD compilation of the top 10 bands for the contest, and will feature them on its Web site at www.newtechmusic.com. More information on Best Band '99 can be found at www.bestband.com or by visiting the home page for NewTechMusic.

"Last year we had over 1 million visitors to the site and, through a combination of online balloting and judging from our celebrity artists, we were able to select the group Zuba as the Best Band On The Net," said Kaman Music Marketing Manager, Alex Fraser. "This year we are able to offer the winner with a record deal from the true digital music label, NewTech Music. Best Band 99 will utilize the MP3 digital music format to ease the process of submitting original material. Our media sponsors will post material that will be educational in nature, with the goal of helping aspiring bands succeed in the industry. Compiled with the power and flexibility of MP3, we feel that strategic alliances, such as NewTechMusic, will help the contest exceed 5 million visitors this year."
