AAFP-EHR vendor partnership brings member discounts - Electronic Health Records - American Academy of Family Physicians - Brief Article

Health Management Technology,  Jan, 2004

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and leading EHR vendors will offer AAFP members discounted products and services through a newly formed alliance. Partner vendors are A4 Health Systems, GE Medical Systems Information Technologies, HP, Med Plexus, MedPlus, NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, Physician Micro Systems, Siemens Medical Solutions Health Services and Welch Allyn.

Under AAFP's Partners for Patients program, AAFP and the vendors are developing EHRs that will help physicians' efforts to integrate patient information, medical resources and patient education materials, as well as bolster efforts to reduce medical errors and service duplication. The alliance will focus on providing affordable systems to physicians and standardizing connectivity interfaces between office-based systems such as the EHR and resources for e-prescribing, lab results reporting and hospital information systems. AAFP and its partner firms will also develop interoperability and security standards for data exchange among physicians, other providers and patients.
