Eroski sells holidays off the shelves - Food Retailing - Eroski Sociedad Cooperativa sells vacation packages - Brief Article

Eurofood,  March 28, 2002

Spanish supermarket chain Eroski has expanded its non-food activities with the introduction of travel service at its stores.

Eroski launched Ociofacil, an initiative which allows customers to purchase their travel needs while doing their shopping at the hypermarket.

Initially the service will be available at two Eroski stores, but the Spanish retailer has plans to role it out nationally if it proves popular.

Customers will find different package tours, in individual boxes with labels indicating destinations, dates, price and travel details.

A label on the upper part of the box contains a bar code which registers the information when passed over the scanner.
